TOURISM
              
Backwaters of Alappuzha is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Kerala. A houseboat cruise in these backwaters can be booked. It connects Kumarakom and Cochin to the North and Quilon to the South. Apart from houseboat services, the Kerala State Water Transport Department provides government boat services within the district.
it is also the access point for the annual Nehru Trophy Boat Race, held on the Punnamada Lake, near Alappuzha, on the second Saturday of August every year. This is the most competitive and popular of the boat races in India.The mullackal chirap is also one of the attractions of Alapuzha which is the festive season held for ten days every year in December.

Located in the heart of the slithering backwaters of Kerala, Alleppey or Alappuzha is often termed the “Venice of the East”. The town is among the oldest planned towns in India and is famous for its several backwater canals, beaches, paddy fields and lagoons.
                                      Houseboats in Kerala have a distinctive place in the state economy. Natives have monetized through the backwater bounty of ‘God’s Own Country’ by offering thrilling and relaxing rides on the houseboats or Kettuvallam. Kettuvalam term was derived by joining Kettu (tied with ropes) and vallam (boat). It has come to dominate the rich cultural heritage of Kerala by being one of the most popular means of transporting cargo over the years, in the past. Kettuvalams with thatched roof covering the wooden hulls have been a common sight for villages fringing the backwaters for many centuries.







ALAPPUZHA BEACH

Alappuzha Beach is a beach in Alappuzha town and a tourist attraction in Kerala, India. Beach has an old pier which extend to sea is over 150 years old. Alappuzha beach host many events annually like Alappuzha beach festival, Sand art festival and many more.








ALAPPUZHA LIGHT HOUSE


The Alappuzha Lighthouse (or Alleppey Light) is situated in the coastal town of AlappuzhaKerala. It was built in 1862 and is a major tourist attraction. Visitors are allowed between 1500 hours and 1630 hours on every weekday at an admission fee of 20 rupees for Indian citizens and 50 rupees for foreigners. This is the first of its kind in the Arabian sea coast of Kerala.



ALAPPUZHA NEHRU TROPHY BOAT RACE
                          The Nehru Trophy Boat Tri Race is a popular Vallam Kali held in the Punnamada Lake near Alappuzha, Kerala, India. Vallam Kali or Vallamkaliy literally means boat play/game, but can be translated to boat race in English. The most popular event of the race is the competition of Chundan Vallams.
